Up From the Ashes: The Ashes of Burnout
For years, I wore busy like a badge of honor.
I pushed through exhaustion. I said yes when I wanted to say no. I believed that if I just worked a little harder, cared a little more, and carried a little more responsibility, eventually I would arrive at a place of peace.
Instead, I arrived at burnout.
Burnout doesn't always happen all at once. Sometimes it happens so slowly that you don't realize you're living in survival mode until you can't remember what thriving feels like.
For me, burnout wasn't just physical exhaustion. It affected my emotions, my relationships, my finances, my health, and even my connection with God. I was functioning, but I wasn't flourishing.
The hardest part was admitting that what had worked in one season of life was no longer serving me in the next.
I began to realize that healing wasn't going to come from pushing harder. It would come from learning to listen.
Listening to my body.
Listening to my emotions.
Listening to the wisdom I had ignored for far too long.
Listening to God.
Looking back now, I can see that burnout wasn't the end of my story. It was the ashes.
And while nobody wants to walk through the fire, sometimes the fire reveals what was never meant to remain.
The journey back has required me to slow down, establish boundaries, prioritize my wellness, and redefine success. It has meant learning that my worth isn't tied to my productivity and that rest is not something I earn—it is something I need.
Today, I still have busy days. I still have goals and dreams. But I am learning to build a life that supports my well-being instead of sacrificing it.
If you find yourself exhausted, overwhelmed, or wondering how much longer you can keep carrying it all, I want you to know something:
The ashes are not the end.
Sometimes they are the beginning of something entirely new.
This blog is the start of a series I'm calling "Up From the Ashes"—a journey through burnout, healing, faith, resilience, and transformation.
Thank you for walking this path with me.
We're rising together.
